As a candidate for the NC Senate Dist. 15 in Wake County this year, I want to take care of homefolks, naturally, but my definition of family extends to all counties. My vote will be needed for rural economic development, just as the rural legislator has to vote on Raleigh and Wake County issues. We must be together and let the road of opportunity be a two-way street, both leading to the Capitol City and away from it. "A rising tide lifts all boats," it's been written and it applies to helping each other county wise, too.

Comment on Rural Economies Suffering, Still!

This article is telling a hard truth about the economic disparties between the urban and rural areas of this state. We need a Marshall Plan for rural North Carolina, especially in the eastern and western sections. The Triangle, The Triad and the Charlotte area are the choice spots for development and jobs, so it is tempting for the more hard pressed communities to draw in industries with unsound inticements. What we need is for legislative leaders to guide its job making and growth investment decisions to all areas of the state. And those decisions should be sustainable for local communities, not the type of initiatives that may be long gone when the economic winds shift elsewhere.

Comment on The Left Side Story, Week of January 4, 2010

Your site is one that I will go to for valuable information, not only for my own campaign for the NC Senate in 2010, but to be informed as a caring and curious citizen.

Comment on One Year Later, Back from the Dead

American politics is always a pendulum that swings from left to right and back again. This is a well known political axium, except to those in power, no matter the party. As bitter as it may seem to the progressive wing, the passage of the Health Care Bill in the House yesterday was due to concessions made to the right. The bill would have died, otherwise. In the end, it was politics in its essence, the art of the possible.

Comment on Dems Dig In as 2010 Approaches

There is a new book on Amazon.com called THE CHANGING FACE OF DEMOCRATS, also on www.claysamerica.com. At worse, it is unfair to other businesses that stay without government help, and at best it should be a practice carefully written to ensure good results. In short, we ought to say no sometimes to the commercial dangling carrot.

Charles Malone,
Raleigh

Comment on Abortion Showdown in SC?

Thanks for this. The people of North Carolina know that is was laissez-faire Republicanism that brought us this financial crises. They're looking at their 401 K, IRA, 529, and Coverdale statements and thinking the exact same thing I'm thinking "I don't care that I've been a lifelong and loyal Republican. It's time to punish the Republican party and every Republican who delivered this financial crises to our doorstep". Burr has to go. The man is a ZERO for North Carolina. And even Republicans like me realize this.

http://republicanagainstburr.blogspot.com/

Comment on Surpise?

Jim Tedisco is not an exceptionally good candidate. I think what hurt him in this election was his indecisiveness in whether or not he would have voted for the "stimulus" bill. That was the most important issue of the race and it took him three weeks to state a position after he was asked. He was leading by almost 20 points before that and tanked after he couldn't answer the question.

Comment on What Have We Learned in 2,063 Years?
